Major Red vs. White wines

Red wines

Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Syrah, Shiraz

Cabernet is the boldest while Merlot is the softest

 

White wines

Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Muscat,

In America, wines are marketed by their type of grape so it would be called a California Cabernet or Pinot Noir.   In France and other countries,  it’s by region, so it might be called a Burgundy, a Bordeaux, or a Super Tuscan.

Older wines are preferable.
